This week’s Makeover Monday features the transformation of a simple paver patio to a stunning TimberTech deck that offers a more sophisticated space for relaxing and entertaining. Most patios are small concrete or paver stone creations off the back of the house that leaves little room for comfort or enjoyment. When you add a deck, you can design an area that extends your living space and allows for longer seasonal use and enjoyment.
David King, a Fence & Deck Connection Project Consultant first met with our clients to discuss the design possibilities for the new deck. While one initial option was to add on to the existing patio, our clients decided to built an entirely new structure.
Before: Paver Patio
The pavers were removed to allow the construction of a free standing structure using a back beam. We then installed 432 sq. ft. of decking using TimberTech Reserve composite deck boards in the classy Antique Leather hue. Hidden fasteners were used, which creates a clean looking surface that is smooth to bare feet. White Ultralox Alta railings and posts complemented by black Ultralox balusters enclose the new area. An Antique Leather rail cap is the finishing touch to really dress up the railing system.
We also included a lighting package consisting of white Ultralox perimeter post cap lights, wiring, and a transformer/timer. This allows our customers to enjoy their new outdoor space long after the sun sets! Last but not least, two sets of two steps with white risers and Antique Leather treads lead down to the backyard. The end result is a beautiful, spacious deck — an amazing upgrade from the original paver patio!
After: Composite Deck in Maryland
