Platform decks, also known as floating decks, are freestanding decks that give you a slightly elevated space for barbecuing, outdoor entertainment or relaxing. Though usually without railings and typically not as high as a regular elevated deck, they still provide a level surface for outdoor for furniture and gatherings. These structures don’t require buried posts, railings, or the more complex supports that decks require, but still provide the same benefits and add value to your home!
Homeowners in Ellicott City were ready for a change, especially given the state of their worn and outdated wooden deck. Fence & Deck Connection Project Consultant David King worked with our customers to design a beautiful platform deck that is both spacious and unique.
Before:
We removed the existing wood deck and replaced it with 364 sq. ft. of TimberTech Reserve decking in the stunning Dark Roast color. A back beam was installed to classify the space a freestanding deck. Mocha colored seam boards and feature boards offer a lovely focal point and nicely accent the Dark Roast hue. White vinyl Washington-style railings with white vinyl square balusters were placed by the steps on either side of the deck. Last but not least, white mini Vega eyeball lights illuminate the steps for safety during nighttime use.
