With proper upkeep, wooden decks offer a classic charm to homes old and new. However, without yearly cleaning, sanding, or staining, they can become become unsightly with age — especially when they warp and rot. With a goal to freshen up their backyard aesthetic, homeowners in Hampstead, Maryland reached out to Fence & Deck Connection for help. Jeff Gottleib, one of our friendly and knowledgeable Project Consultants, worked with our clients design a bright, modern composite deck that matches the home’s style and expands the usable space.
Before: Small, Aging Wooden Deck
We demoed and hauled away the existing wood deck, before constructing a new 20′ x 14′ pressure treated wood frame with a rear beam at the home’s fireplace bumpier, and two 4′ x 4′ landings — one on the side, and one at the mid-point of a new set of stairs. We installed Trex Select decking on Pebble Gray using hidden fasteners for a clean, unblemished surface. A popular color option for many of our Maryland customers, Pebble Gray is a light heather grey with an easy-to-maintain, wood-like grain pattern.
White vinyl Washington-style railing and black around aluminum balusters enclose the new space and accent the gray hue nicely. White fascia trims the deck and steps. All support beams and posts were also wrapped, for a clean, finished look.
