Having a deck is a major benefit to homeowners – it expands your living space, maximizes your property, and adds value to your home. With a deck extended off your main level, it’s perfect for relaxing, reading, eating, and entertaining. However, with time, wood decks can often become more of a nuisance than otherwise. Wood decks are classic and charming, but they do require yearly maintenance (cleaning, sanding, staining) to keep it looking in tip-top shape. Without the time and effort, they can become unsightly as they age, warp, and rot.
Homeowners in Eldersburg, Maryland contacted Fence & Deck Connection to upgrade their aging wooden deck to a durable, long-lasting composite outdoor space! Jeff Gottleib, one of Fence & Deck Connection’s knowledgable Project Consultants, worked with our clients to design a new space that brightens up the appearance of the home and the overall backyard space.
Before: Aging Wood Deck in Eldersburg
We first demoed and hauled away the existing wood deck, before constructing a new 19′ x 11′ pressure treated wood frame with a 4’6″ x 4 landing off to the side. The new structure supports the installation of 247 sq. ft. of Dark Roast TimberTech decking using hidden fasteners for a clean, polished look. Dark Roast is a beautiful hue in the Reserve Collection. Inspired by reclaimed wood, these boards feature a rough wire-brushed, low-gloss finish that highlights the classic cathedral wood grain pattern.
White vinyl railing with black round balusters enclose the new space and 8′ of white privacy fencing topped with lattice was placed on the neighbor’s side. When living in a crowded subdivision or a townhouse community, privacy panels are a great way to create a more private, secluded atmosphere on your deck.
After: TimberTech Composite Deck in Eldersburg, Maryland
One set of 4′ wide steps lead down to the landing Install one set of 4′ wide steps down to an additional 4 x 4’10” landing followed by another series of steps to grade. A matching gate was placed at the top of the landing for extra safety and security. Additionally, homeowners chose to add a light package which included two white corona riser lights on every other riser and white Venus post cap lights. There’s no doubt this new deck looks sophisticated and invited in the night time!
White PVC trims the fascia of the deck and steps, and support beans and support posts are also wrapped for a clean finish.
