Not every homeowner needs or wants a large deck. Some customers might prefer a smaller, more intimate outdoor space for relaxing, entertaining, or dining. A smaller deck can still provide all the functionality needed without overwhelming the yard or outdoor area. Additionally, a smaller deck might complement the overall design and scale of the house and yard better than a larger one. By choosing to downsize, you just might be enhancing the visual appeal of your outdoor space without dominating it.
Returning fence clients in Bowie, Maryland reached back out to Fence & Connection when it was time to replace their 30-year-old wooden deck. Happy with Project Consultant Dave King’s design expertise and customer service with their fence project, they didn’t hesitate to request him again he second time around! WIth a smaller footprint and an upgrade to composite decking materials, Dave King helped out clients achieve the outdoor space of their dreams!
Before:
We first removed the existing wood deck, before installing a new, smaller deck — 16 x 20′ outdoor space complete with TimberTech Reserve decking in the beautiful Reclaimed Chestnut hue. The Reserve collection brings the charm of reclaimed wood to your space without the rigorous maintenance of wood. Featuring the rustic character and natural beauty of aged wood, TimberTech’s premium polymer capped composite boards deliver real wood aesthetics you’ll never have to sand, stain, or seal. Reclaimed Chestnut is a beautiful light brown with a grey cast inspired by gently weathered reclaimed barn wood. This light neutral tone is a perfect for warm summers, and provides a blank canvas for seasonal furniture and decor.
Tan vinyl Washington-style railing with round black aluminum balusters pairs well with the deck board’s brown and grey tones. Included in the deck’s design is a small cutout to provide access to a basement window well and nearby corner downspout and drains for any future maintenance purposes. As an intentional design feature, matching Reclaimed Chestnut boards “picture frame” the deck, as well as the individual steps in the newly installed 3-step staircase. Despite the smaller footprint, the new deck is definitely an upgrade in terms of looks, longevity, and maintenance requirements!
