Project of the Month: TimberTech Deck in Glenwood, Maryland

While traditional wood has been a staple in the decking industry for decades, it’s certainly not the only option anymore! In fact, composite decking is the leading decking material for our Maryland customers. One of our knowledgeable Project Consultants, Kevin Bullion, worked with homeowners in Glenwood, Maryland to reimagine their large backyard deck. Though it doesn’t actually surround the pool itself, the new deck had to adhere to proper pool code. By transitioning from wood decking to TimberTech Reserve composite decking, our Howard County clients will definitely have to worry less about yearly maintenance and upkeep!

First, our hardworking crews removed and hauled away the existing wood deck, landing, and steps. Then, we were able to get to work installing a new deck in essentially the same layout and space as the old deck. Using the existing support posts and beams, we installed traditional 6″ x 6″ supports set into the ground and additional 40′ of new support beams and footers. The free-standing structure supports approximately 500 sq. ft. of TimberTech Reserve Driftwood decking, with boards running parallel to the house. Driftwood is a lovely, warmer grey tone that has depth and character. A Driftwood feature and seam board adds visual interest to the deck and offers a cleaner, polished look.

White vinyl Washington-style railing with black aluminum black balusters safely enclose the large gathering space. We installed a new set of 4′ wide steps off the side landing, which leads down to the pool area. 1″ white vinyl lattice dresses the bottom half of the deck on the side where the steps are located. To complete the new look, white vinyl textured fascia wraps around the deck’s perimeter.

The deck is absolutely stunning and fits in nicely with the home’s style and backyard aesthetic. Pleased with the end result, our clients left a glowing review!

“From our first visit on site with our Project Consultant, Kevin Bullion, we knew Fence and Deck Connection would be our contractor. Kevin’s knowledge of decks and his suggestions allowed us to make critical decisions in designing the best deck for our needs.

TJ Farley, our Project Manager, guided us through the entire process of permitting and constructing our deck, was responsive to our requests, and in the end, made sure we were satisfied with every minor detail of the finished product. The construction schedule including start and finish dates were spot on.

And I can’t say enough about Jose and his crew. They worked with us to make sure every step in the construction process was explained and assured us the job would be done as if Jose was building the deck for his grandmother. In return, we gave them a daily dose of homemade cookies and a pizza party as a thank you!”
