Makeover Monday: TimberTech Dark Roast Deck in Baltimore County

Pressure treated wood decks were once the staple of an elevated backyard space. Not only are they economical, but they can last up to 15 years or so with the proper maintenance. While that sounds like a solid option, the key is keeping up with that maintenance. Unlike composite decking, pressure treated wood can mold, rot, and warp, and must be cleaned and power-washed regularly. Plus, if you want a deck that fits naturally with the exterior of your home, stains or paint, and a sealant must be reapplied as the sun bleaches the wood over time.

Homeowners in Baltimore County reached out to Fence & Deck Connection looking to upgrade their old wood decking to composite material that will last decades with far less required maintenance. Project Consultant Steve Nehus helped design a beautiful, modern space that has the appearance of wood and matches perfectly with the siding of the home!

Before:

We first demoed the existing deck before constructing a new 168 sq. ft. deck, adorned with TimberTech composite decking using hidden fasteners in the Dark Roast hue. A matching Dark Roast feature board “picture frames” the perimeter of the deck and the structure is also wrapped with Dark Roast fascia. Pictured below, you can see homeowners placed a rug on the main deck space for a cozy, outdoor living room look — using the deck as a true extension of their indoor space.

With a duo-tone matte finish, Dark Roast boards provide a beautiful blend of natural, traditional beauty with an elegant modern twist. Unlike other deck board in the TimberTech collection, EasyClean Reserve Dark Roast composite decking has been produced with an antique brushed finish bringing out a deeper, more visible grain — ideal for homeowners searching for a deck board that offers an organic appearance.

While black Ultralox Alta railing safely encloses the second story deck, we also installed 14 feet of railing using tempered glass panels. Unlike aluminum or vinyl spindles, glass panels offer a sophisticated accent and an unrestricted view of the yard below. One matching set of steps with a 4′ x 8′ mid-landing leads down to the woodsy backyard patio to complete this beautiful new deck!

Once the project was completed, our team does a final walkthrough to ensure our clients are 100% satisfied with their new fence or deck:

“The whole process was great! I had a glass front put on my deck -it’s awesome and I love the whole thing. The crew also did an excellent job of construction and cleanup.” – Rose S.
