While we tend to show some major deck upgrades for Makeover Monday, we’re switching gears this week to showcase a beautiful fencing transformation here in Maryland! Homeowners in Severna Park contacted Fence & Deck Connection to replace the various painted wood fencing styles that secured their property. Wanting to stick with the classic charm wood fencing offers, but with material that adds long-lasting beauty, our clients decided to use high-quality cedar. Cedar is a great option with a rich color that tends to be a more dimensionally stable board less likely to warp and split. Cedar planks also feature a tight grain, and fewer knots than many other kinds of wood, adding to their appeal.
With the help of Project Consultant, Eddie Serrano, this home in Anne Arundel County now has a well-crafted fence that increases the home’s value, adds a spark of curb appeal, and will last for years to come with proper yearly maintenance!
Before:
Before we were able to install the new fencing, over 200 feet of brush and shrubbery was cleared, and our crews removed and hauled away the existing 336 feet of existing fencing. We then installed approximately 130 linear feet of cedar vertical board fencing with pressure treated posts, cedar closed spindles, bottom cedar fascia boards and cedar New England post caps in various heights — 4, 5, 6, and 7 feet tall. A new 5′ high walk gate replaces the old gate, complete with an AquaLatch. Similar to the old arbor, we installed a new cedar arbor with square lattice on each side. The entry way is completely stunning, warm, and inviting!
We also installed new fencing for the back of the property as well. Instead of cedar privacy fencing, we used 226 feet of pressure treated 3-rail split rail fencing with black vinyl coated mesh. We installed two matching pressure treated spaced picket walk gates with AquaLatches for easy access into and out of the yard. This type of fencing is ideal for properties with large open spaces, woodsy, natural areas, or for those that want to keep the keep the view of their surroundings unobstructed.
While many of our customers prefer the look of white vinyl privacy fencing, or painted pressure treated wood fencing, cedar fencing is an absolutely beautiful alternative that provides the classic charm homeowners are searching for.
