Pressure treated wood decks were once the staple of an elevated backyard space. Not only are they economical, but they can last up to 15 years or so with the proper maintenance. While that sounds like a solid option, the key is keeping up with that maintenance. Unlike composite decking, pressure treated wood can mold, rot, and warp, and must be cleaned and power-washed regularly. Plus, if you want a deck that fits naturally with the exterior of your home, stains or paint, and a sealant must be reapplied as the sun bleaches the wood over time.
Homeowners in Anne Arundel County reached out to Fence & Deck Connection looking to upgrade their old wood decking that was unsafe and unsightly, to composite material that will last decades with far less required maintenance. Project Consultant Tom Simpson helped design a beautiful, modern space that completely transforms the look of the home and backyard area!

We first demoed and hauled away the rotting wooden decks and stairs, and replaced them with a freestanding structure complete with back beam and support posts. Approximately 300 sq. ft. of Trex Select Pebble Gray composite decking adorns the new spaces, along with white vinyl Washington style railing and black square aluminum balusters. Select Pebble Gray is a light heather gray hue, with a protective outer shell for durability that helps to resist fading and staining. Unlike traditional wood decking, this board is made of affordable high-performance composite that won’t rot, warp, or splinter! Plus, it’s incredibly easy to maintain — no sanding, staining, or painting needed! New stairs on either side of the new deck were completed with Pebble Gray decking and composite wrap.
