A recent study estimated that US homes and businesses have 40 million wood decks that are more than 20 years old. And as wood structures go, decks are particularly exposed and vulnerable to the elements. Homeowners in Columbia, Maryland contacted Fence & Deck Connection when they decided it was time to transform their outdoor space — nothing lasts forever! The wooden deck was definitely showing wear and the design was a bit outdated. Project Consultant Andrew Vidulich helped design a more modern deck using TimberTech Advanced PVC material that completely transforms the home!
Before:
We first demoed and hauled away the existing wood deck before installing a long-lasting modern replacement. We replaced the wood decking with approximately 352 sq. ft. of TimberTech Landmark Advanced PVC decking in the beautiful French White color. With rustic touches and cathedral peaks like you’d find in reclaimed barnwood, the Landmark Collection mimics authentic salvaged wood. The French White hue in particular is a light, organic hue with subtitle shades of oak, warm grays, and tennis that deliver the look of hardwoods prized by European craftsmen. As a beautiful contrast and accent color, American Walnut is used as the feature board, seam board, and stair treads. American Walnut is a deep, cool brown with a range of hues from chocolatey brown to ashy black for a rustic tone that resembles walnut hardwood.
White vinyl railings with round black aluminum balusters enclose the space, and the railing is illuminated at night thanks to thirteen white Saturn Anello post cap lights. The new American Walnut colored staircase also provides nighttime lighting with the help of five black Pyxis riser lights. To hide the deck’s underside and create hidden storage and access, we skirted the deck with 1″ vinyl lattice with one gate.
