Purchasing new construction can be exciting. As a homeowner, you can essentially design your dream house, choosing styles and upgrades for the kitchen, flooring, bathroom materials, etc. One upgrade that is rarely sold in most home developments, however, is the deck. When you drive through these communities, you might notice that instead of first or second story decks, there will be French or sliding glass doors with a piece of fence placed directly in front of it. This is so the homeowner can add the deck as an upgrade, or purchase the home as is and build the deck after closing.
FDC Project Consultant, Steve Nehus worked with new homeowners in Fallston, Maryland to complete their new deck, so they could spend more time enjoying the outdoor space the house was always meant to have! Steve helped design a beautiful, functional outdoor space that definitely complements the home’s design and stays true to the customer’s vision.
Before:
We first constructed brand new framework to support approximately 729 sq. ft. of composite decking. For this project, we installed TimberTech AZEK Landmark decking in French White Oak using hidden fasteners. The French White hue is a light, organic hue with subtitle shades of oak, warm grays, and tannins that deliver the look of hardwoods prized by European craftsmen. As a beautiful contrast and accent color, American Walnut was used as the feature board, seam boards. American Walnut is a deep, cool brown with a range of hues from chocolatey brown to ashy black for a rustic tone that resembles walnut hardwood.
Made of high-performance and recycled polymers (and absolutely no wood fibers), TimberTech Advanced PVC decking is highly resistant to moisture damage like mold and mildew, and it won’t splinter, crack, cup, peel, or rot. With rustic touches and cathedral peaks like you’d find in reclaimed barnwood, the Landmark Collection mimics authentic salvaged wood. One benefit of the Landmark Collection is dramatic, highly color-blended boards with cascading hues. The highlights and lowlights in each board vary from end-to-end and board-to-board making each deck one-of-a-kind. The color can vary based on the lighting direction and time of day, giving you a beautiful and highly unique deck. Additionally, TimberTech Advanced PVC Decking products are cooler to the touch than other competitive composite decking products by up to 30 degrees. French White oak is one of the lightest color boards making it ideal for homes in warm clients, or poolside decking!
Tan Washington-style railing with black aluminum balusters enclose this expansive deck area, which matches the color scheme of the home and deck boards. For a clean, uniform support posts and beams were wrapped with tan vinyl sleeves, and the deck was wrapped with tan PVC fascia with mitered corners and capped with Cortex plugs. To ensure the deck could be enjoyed at night, homeowners chose a lighting system that included tan Venus post cap lights on each ail post.
