When you have a close-to-ground level walkout, homeowners are often left with the decision to build a platform-style deck, or install a concrete or paver patio for their designated outdoor space. A small raised deck with or without a railing offers several advantages over a patio. It provides an elevated vantage point, offering a better view of the surrounding landscape, whether it’s a garden, yard, or waterfront view. This elevation can also create a sense of separation and privacy from ground-level activities. Unlike a patio, which is typically constructed at ground level and susceptible to water accumulation or uneven terrain, a raised deck is generally more resilient to moisture, offering better drainage and reduced risk of water damage.
Our Grasonville customers on the Eastern Shore of Maryland contacted Fence & Deck Connection when their platform-style wood deck was in dire need of repair or replacement. The existing wood space was showing extreme signs of wear and tear, as well as rotting, warped, and missing boards. Project Consultant Tracy Ours worked with our wonderful clients to build a new spacious deck using Trex Lineage decking, which will last for years to come with little maintenance!
Before:
We first removed and hauled away the existing deck, before building a new structure. The new platform deck supports 410 sq. ft. of Trex Lineage decking in the “Rainier” hue, with a matching feature board that picture frames the deck. An airy, mountain grey, Rainier mirrors white-capped mountains and wooded sounds, with its subtle silver tones and delicate grain pattern. White vinyl textured fascia wraps the deck, and instead of the traditional lattice used in the old deck, we installed a more modern looking horizontal skirting. Due to the low height of the deck and the customer’s preference, we did not install any railing to enclose the large space. However, we did install two posts and a grabrail one one side of the six-foot-wide set of steps.
After:
Interested in Trex Lineage decking? This new collection offers an elevated aesthetic with elegant graining that delivers an unmatched natural appearance. As an added bonus, Lineage decking is engineered with heat-mitigating technology in the shell to reflect the sun and keep boards cooler underfoot. It also resists fading, scratching and mold and never needs sanding, staining or painting.
