When mold or algae growth become increasingly visible on your wood deck, it’s a clear sign that the wood is deteriorating, compromising both its structural integrity and visual appeal. Mold and algae growth not only make the deck unsightly, but also create slippery and hazardous conditions, posing a safety risk to anyone walking on it. Additionally, allowing mold and algae to persist can speed up rot and decay of the wood, leading to more extensive damage and potentially costly repairs down the line.
Realizing their current deck had seen better days, our clients in Elkridge, Maryland reached out to Fence & Deck Connection for our trusted expertise. Project Consultant Jake Wolod worked with homeowners to design a beautiful new deck using TimberTech composite decking. TimberTech AZEK decking is crafted from composite materials that are highly resistant to rot, decay, and insect damage, ensuring longevity and durability far outlasting traditional wood decks. Making the switch to TimberTech decking not only enhances the aesthetics and functionality of their outdoor space, but also offers a sustainable and low-maintenance solution for many years to come.
Before:
We first demoed and hauled away the existing wooden deck before constructing a new free-standing pressure treated wood frame. The new and expertly crafted deck frame supports 372 sq. ft. of TimberTech AZEK composite decking in the stunning American Walnut hue. Deck boards were placed in a a herringbone pattern for a beautiful design element that makes the deck look like a piece of art. Found in the Landmark Collection, these boards have the bold, character-rich texture of popular hardwoods like white oak and walnut without the rigorous maintenance of wood. The capped polymer decking features proprietary materials technology that delivers sophisticated, real wood aesthetics you’ll never have to sand, stain, or seal.
American Walnut is a deep, cool brown with a range of hues from chocolatey brown to ashy black for a rustic tone that resembles walnut hardwood. For the railing, we installed black Ultralox Alta railing. An American Walnut cap rail provides a great space to place beverages or planters. The deck was wrapped with matching American Walnut fascia for a polished look. Eleven steps separated by a 4×4′ landing complete the new deck. The bottom set of steps are flared for a dramatic entry up to the outdoor space.
