Composite Deck in Bel Air, MD: Makeover Monday

While wood decks can offer natural beauty and charm to outdoor spaces, they do require regular upkeep to maintain their appearance and structural integrity. With proper care and maintenance, a wood deck can provide many years of enjoyment before needing replacement or significant renovation. However, for homeowners with busy lifestyles, composite decking, which requires far less maintenance and upkeep, is an ideal outdoor living solution.

Customers in Bel Air, Maryland reached out to Fence & Deck Connection looking to upgrade their splintering wood decking to composite material that will last decades with far less required maintenance. Project Consultant Steve Nehus helped design an updated, modern space that that matches beautifully with the home.

Before:

We first removed the existing wood deck before constructing a new 22′ x 16′ frame using high quality pressure treated wood deck. We then placed 352 sq. ft. of TimberTech Sea Salt Gray decking secured using hidden fasteners. A matching double feature board frames the perimeter of the deck for an extra decorative touch. Sea Salt Gray is one of our popular stock deck boards — a medium gray with cool and warm undertones to create a versatile, gently weathered wood look. The TimberTech Prime+ Collection delivers capped composite deck boards with subtle nuances of color for an attractive real wood aesthetic. No sanding, staining or sealing is required with maintenance-friendly composite decking! Additionally, this type of decking features a 100% polymer, 3-sided cap that extends inside the grooves of grooved-shoulder boards for enhanced protection against moisture.

White vinyl Lincold-style railings with round black aluminum balusters — a popular railing design for a variety of deck styles and hues — safely enclose the deck. An AZEK Castle Gate cap rail provides a lovely accent and place to rest drinks or plants. One set of steps were installed using Sea Salt Gray decking and white vinyl fascia with mitered corners wraps the entire deck space.

The new deck completely transforms the home’s exterior and backyard!
