Fence & Deck Connection Project Consultant, Andrew Vidulich, worked with homeowners in Joppa, Maryland to turn a grassy picnic table spot into a beautiful outdoor room — perfect for a summer evening dinner party or an afternoon relaxing in the shade.
BEFORE:
We installed 200 sq. ft. of Trex decking in Foggy Wharf, a modern neutral color option that blends salty grey hues with shades of dark silver and a low-maintenance, wood-like grain pattern. White vinyl railings with square balusters enclose the space, and white vinyl fascia wraps the deck for a clean, finished look. A white pergola attached to the house covers the entirety of the deck and creates a lovely canopy for nighttime lighting.
Pergolas are a great way to extend your living space and can increase the amount of time you spend outside on warm, sunny days in the middle of a Maryland summer. Designed and oriented correctly on your deck, a pergola can provide plenty of shade for dinner parties, book reading, or a “work from home” office location. You may also install additional covers, for even more sun protection or in preparation for unpredictable summer storms, such as fabric or a retractable cover.
